Event: Alo Yoga X BoxUnion
Hi, love bugs!
Last week I attended a really cool event with my friend Raeann pictured (@raeannlanglas), and Rachel (@lovelyinla) at the Alo store in Beverly Hills for a new workout with Stevie Finedore. It consists of a mix of boxing and yoga and it was really intense and if you know me, I love that! Ever thought how boxing and yoga could harmoniously blend together? Ask Stevie! This amazing fitness instructor started modeling many years ago and has always been boxing to stay fit until she discovered yoga and like many, it gave her balance and peace within her life. Yoga is amazing for your body but it especially is for your mind and soul.
A little bit about me here... I remember last summer also finding inner peace through yoga and couldn't be more thankful. I had been practicing yoga for quite some time, but something about completely immersing myself in a full mind-body-soul connection took my practice to the next level. Boxing on the other hand has been something relatively new to me that I have just added to my workout routine this past year. My interest in boxing was sparked by my brother, who is a professional boxer in Montreal, Canada. He would always tell me how great of a workout it is and I finally took the jump. It was to him what yoga was to me- a perfect way to refocus and ground himself. Who doesn't like that feeling? Ok, back to the event now!
When we arrived at the event, we were greeted to the beautiful Alo Yoga store’s rooftop and the light breeze on this hot LA day was so appreciated. We each had a yoga mat with a towel, a water bottle, and an encouragement note awaiting us. Mine said “In a world where you can be anything, be kind”- which is something that I hold in very high regards. It is so, so important to be kind because you never know what the person in front of you is going through. Kindness is one of the most valuable qualities in my opinion, along with honesty.
The workout consisted in a perfect blend of boxing followed by yoga. We started by a light warm up along with some shadow boxing to get familiar with basic names and boxing moves. This part is really important, especially if you lack coordination, so focus! Boxing can get very tricky, which is why it asks for a lot of focus. Not only are you working out your body, you also are working out your brain. The workout is intense: you'll sweat and die a little but it's so worth it because when you think you can't handle another squat-jab-squat-hook, she will liberate you with an amazing yoga flow and finish in shavasanna. Now that’s what I call a happy ending!
Best part of this? Relaxing on the rooftop with an amazing snack by Renew Nourish with my friends post-workout. Fresh vegan deliciousness. Coconut yogurt bowls, vegan donuts, and fruit galore: unbelievable and exactly what you want after that workout: clean and fresh.
Stevie was just such an amazing instructor and I can't wait to take more of her classes. Her playlist was absolute fire. I mean a remix of Let’s Get It On by Marvin Gaye + boxing = perfect combo no??? Everything was just so perfectly balanced: music, workout, environment, snacks, people, mind, body and soul. Needless to say, I had a blast!
